KDDIと住友商事は2014年から、ミャンマーにおける良質な通信インフラおよびサービスの提供による国民生活の向上に向けて、両社で共同出資するKDDI Summit Global Myanmar Co. Ltd.（以下、KSGM）を通じて、通信ライセンスを有しているミャンマー国営郵便・電気通信事業体（Myanma Posts & Telecommunications、以下 MPT）の通信事業運営をサポートしてきました。このたび、KSGMとMPTの契約を改定しましたので、お知らせします。
当社はこれまで、国内通信事業で培った技術・マーケティング・営業分野などのノウハウを生かしたサポートを行うとともに、ミャンマーの通信インフラを担う人材の育成に取り組んできました。この取り組みが10年間で着実に進んだことから、今回の契約改定では、同国の通信インフラの質を確保しつつ、サポート範囲を縮小しました。今後も、MPT事業の進展に伴い、サポート範囲の縮小を検討していきます。
なお、契約改定に関わらず、人道支援の観点から、今回の震災により影響を受けたライフラインの復旧支援には引き続き尽力していきます。
当社は、現地従業員およびその家族、その他の関係者の安全確保に留意しつつ、当社グループの人権方針に則り、継続的に国際的な人権規範を尊重するための方法を追求しています。2024年度も引き続き人権専門家の助言をいただきながら、人権デューデリジェンスの一環として、多様なステークホルダーとの対話を継続的に実施しています。これらの対話を通じ、ミャンマー国民のための通信網の維持・確保が人権尊重上重要であることを改めて確認したほか、人権面の努力とその進捗共有を求める声も認識しました。このような声も踏まえ人権デューデリジェンスと対話を継続し、今後もミャンマーの情勢やビジネス環境などの状況変化を注視しながら適切な対処を検討していきます。
なお、契約改定に伴う2024年度の業績への影響は軽微であり、通期業績予想の修正はありません。今後、本事業に関わる業績は、KSGMが有するMPTに対するドル建てリース債権回収にかかる損益が中心となります。リース債権については、引き続き回収に努めていきます。
Amendment of Telecommunications Business Agreement in Myanmar
Since 2014, KDDI Corporation and Sumitomo Corporation through KDDI Summit Global Myanmar Co., Ltd. (KSGM), a joint venture established between the two companies, have supported Myanma Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), one of Myanmar's licensed telecommunications service providers, to deliver high-quality telecommunications infrastructure and services which have contributed to the welfare of people in Myanmar. Today, KDDI announces that KSGM and MPT have recently amended their agreement.
KDDI Corporation has been working to develop human resources responsible for Myanmar's telecommunications infrastructure while providing support based on its expertise in technical, marketing and sales fields gained from its Japanese domestic telecommunications businesses. As these efforts have progressed steadily in these ten years, this amendment results in a reduction of scope of support from KDDI while securing the quality of Myanmar's telecommunications infrastructure. We will consider reducing our support in accordance with the further development of MPT.
Regardless of the amendment of the agreement, we will continue to dedicate ourselves to supporting the restoration of lifelines affected by the earthquake as humanitarian aid.
KDDI remains committed to ensuring the safety of local employees, their families, and other related parties, and continuously pursues ways to respect international human rights norms in accordance with KDDI Corporation Group's Human Rights Policy. In the fiscal year 2024, KDDI regularly engaged with various stakeholders as part of its human rights due diligence, and took advice from human rights experts. Through these dialogues, we reaffirmed the critical importance for the people of Myanmar of maintaining and securing the telecommunication network in the context of respecting human rights and also acknowledged the requests to make efforts in relation to human rights and share those progresses. Taking these voices into account, KDDI will continue to conduct heightened human rights due diligence and engaging in dialogues, while monitoring the changing situations in Myanmar and carefully consider any necessary appropriate actions.
The impact of this contract amendment on our financial results for the fiscal year 2024 is expected to be minimal, and no revisions to our full-year earnings forecast are anticipated. Going forward, the company's performance from this project will primarily come from gains or losses associated with the collection of dollar-denominated lease receivables from MPT held by KSGM. We will continue our efforts to collect these lease receivables.
