KDDI Corporation
Tokyo, April 4, 2025―KDDI has signed an agreement with Sharp Corporation to acquire the land and buildings of the Sharp Sakai Plant, with the aim of building an AI data center.
KDDI plans to begin operations at the data center by the end of fiscal year 2025. Named the Osaka Sakai Data Center, it will be equipped to rapidly develop large-scale generative AI models with trillions of parameters, by deploying the latest GPU platform, including the NVIDIA GB200 NVL72.
The Osaka Sakai Data Center will support KDDI's generative AI and other AI-related initiatives, and will be made available to companies and organizations through WAKONX, a business platform designed for the AI era. The data center will use the latest power and liquid-cooling technologies to reduce power consumption, and will only use electricity completely generated from renewable energy, to reduce its environmental impact.
